ThailandBangkok,
Thailand
Bangkok, Thailand is one of the most popular tourist cities in
all of Asia. With its low retail prices and beautiful tropical
plant growth, Bangkok is the perfect city for a backpacking
adventure or upscale retreat. A trip to Bangkok will be most
enjoyable when visited between November and February. Bangkok is
well-known for its heat, but during these months, the temperature
is significantly cooler. Bangkok also experiences much less rain
during this time of the year.

Best Time to Visit
November to February. March is also
tolerable but it starts getting hot by the end of the month.
How to Reach
The newly renovated Suvarnabhumi Airport is
very well connected by major cities in the world. But do consider
the price factor and enquire into alternative routes requiring two to three connecting
flights. Most routes to Bangkok run out of the major airports (LAX, DFW, DIA, etc.). Once you’ve reached one of these airports, you
will fly to Osaka or Tokyo, which takes twelve to fourteen hours.
The last flight from Osaka or Tokyo to Bangkok runs between four
and six hours. Some places are directly connected to Phuket, a
renowned international destination within Thailand and you could
fly there and then take a one-hour flight to Bangkok.
Getting Around
Once in Bangkok, the city provides many
transportation options, including Metro, Skytrain (BTS), boats, taxis, and of course, tuk-tuks.
As a general rule, use Skytrain or the Metro to get near your
desired attraction, then either walk or use Taxis or Tuk-Tuks to
get to the place. Do try the tuk-tuk once before hopping on to
air-conditioned taxis or you will miss out on the experience.
Tourist information counters on every square will guide you on the
price you should reasonably pay for the ride. Taxis and tuk-tuks
cost roughly the same.
For destinations on the Rattanakosin island (the famous temples
and museums), the boat is the most practical and economical means
of transport once you have reached the pier by BTS.
Food
If you’re looking for great Thai food, look no further than
Bangkok. With its balance of the five fundamental flavors (spicy,
sour, sweet, salty, and bitter) Thai food has a dish to offer for
people of all different tastes. You will find almost all
international food chains in Bangkok from Starbucks and KFC to
McDonalds and Pizza Hut, but the best bargains are the Thai Pad
Thai noodle bars found all over the streets and food courts which
give you the best value for money.
Almost every mall has a food court serving Thai noodles along
with a range of other cuisines like Italian, Indian, Vietnamese,
Chinese food along with countless counters for desserts and
ice-creams.
Where to Stay
There are a wide variety of hotels in Bangkok, including some of
the top rated in the world. The price for hotels varies greatly
depending on quality, ranging anywhere from $45-$300 per night.
Most of the upscale hotels offer a full spa service in addition to
sleeping accommodations. Check out our article on Family-friendly
