5 Reasons You’re Losing Hair

Spread the love

Hair loss is inevitable. You lose hair it the shower, while brushing it, and even while giving it a blow dry. You even lose it in your sleep. Hair goes through cycles, which means that most people usually lose around fifty to one hundred hairs a day. Hair loss centres like BioTHIK know that everyone wants a full head of healthy hair, and in most cases every hair you lose is replaced by a new one, however some hairs don’t grow back. This can be a sign of a more serious medical condition. Here are five reasons you’re losing hair.

5 Reasons You're Losing Hair

Telogen Effluvium

Telogen Effluvium is a type of drastic hair loss that occurs after drastic weight loss, major surgery, extreme periods of stress, and even after pregnancy. It is caused by brushing, styling, or washing your hair. Some medications such as anti-depressants, beta-blockers, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications. Stress and some medications skip the hair growing phase and move on to the shedding, or Telogen, phase, causing rapid hair loss.

Hereditary Hair Loss

Hereditary hair loss is known as androgenetic alopecia, and is the most common form of hair loss. This is inherited from both sides of your family, and usually occurs if both parents suffer from the condition.

Hypothyroidism

A lot of people, mostly women, suffer from thyroid disease. This occurs when your body doesn’t produce enough of the thyroid hormone, which is responsible for heart rate, mood, and metabolism. When your body produces too much of the thyroid hormone you have an overactive thyroid, which causes changes in your metabolic rate, the growth of your nails, skin, and hair. However when you don’t have enough of the thyroid hormone, your bodily functions will be affected.

Lupus

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that infects a body’s immune system and tissue. The immune system normally makes proteins called antibodies to fight off infection and harmful bacteria, however Lupus makes the immune system unable to tell the difference between healthy tissue and antigens. Lupus causes swelling, pain, and tissue damage. Lupus affects around 1.5 million people, usually women in their late 20’s and early 30’s. Lupus causes hair loss that occurs when brushing or shampooing your hair. The hair may come out in small patches, and may be accompanied by a scalp rash.

Iron Deficiency Anaemia

Iron deficiency anaemia usually affects women. It occurs when people do not eat enough iron-enriched foods or have heavy periods, and occurs when the blood doesn’t have enough red blood cells. Red blood cells are necessary to transport oxygen throughout your body, therefore giving you strength and energy. Iron deficiency anaemia is plainly obvious, as the skin pales, and the body looks fatigued and weak. People with this condition often have headaches, difficulty concentration, and hair loss.

There are many ways to help prevent hair loss, such as getting a head massage, taking antioxidants, natural juices such as garlic, onion, and ginger, and also meditation. Meditation can help reduce stress and balance out the hormones in your body.
