Dressing for success: What to Wear to Christmas Lights Downtown
A lot of people enjoy going to see the Christmas lights on display in their hometown, and it’s also fun to go with your friends and family members. If you’re planning to do this with the whole family, here are some suggestions on how to dress so that you can spend as much time enjoying the sights as possible while still keeping yourself warm and comfortable.
The right coat
Women’s coats & jackets are the key to warmth and comfort. Wool coats are a great choice, as they are warm and heavy enough to keep you warm on a cold evening. If you’re looking for something more lightweight, there are plenty of options available. For example, puffer jackets can be found at many stores and provide excellent insulation without being too heavy or bulky. When it comes to color, think about what will make you more visible in the event that you need help – green is your best bet!
Layers, layers, layers
I love the holidays, but I’ll be the first to admit that dressing up in a winter jacket and snow boots isn’t always glamorous. It’s one thing if you’re going out with friends or on a date, but when you have kids and are visiting the Christmas display with your family, it can get a little tricky. Here are some of my favorite ways of getting around it!
- Wear layers. Start by wearing an oversized sweater over a long-sleeved dress or blouse, then add tights and leggings underneath. Throw on some knee-high boots and voila—you’re all set!
- For your kids, think thermal pants under a pair of cotton bottoms such as these cute joggers for kids
- Sweet Salt Clothing’s maxi dresses can also be layered over a pair of leggings and a long-sleeve top for a nice family Christmas picture with the lights as the background.
Cute and comfortable shoes
Comfortable shoes are key, especially if you’re on your feet a lot. I recommend something that’s cute and comfortable, like a pair of black combat boots. If you’re going to be walking around in the cold a lot, make sure the shoe is waterproof. Sneakers work well too! Just be sure that they are made of leather and are comfortable enough to be on your feet for the duration of your walk. If you need extra warmth, wear an extra pair of socks. If there’s snow out, a good pair of snow boots will keep your feet warm and dry as well as look really cute!
Accessories
Wear a winter hat and gloves. It might be chilly, but you’ll want your hands and ears to stay warm. A scarf is another accessory that comes in handy to cover your face if the cold becomes unbearable on your cheeks. Leg warmers are great for adding layers around your legs. Don’t forget ear muffs if you’ll be in lower temperatures.
There are many different options when it comes to what you should be wearing during your visit. It all depends on the weather if you plan on walking or driving, and how much time you want to spend there. Whatever you choose, make sure that it is comfortable and matches the dress code of the event.
