Guide To Understanding Laser Skin Tightening

Laser skin treatments have been around for a few decades now. They are extremely popular at cosmetic clinics in getting the desired results. Even though you’ve probably heard of them, what do you really know about how they work? It might be time for you to take a closer look at laser skin tightening treatments.

Guide To Understanding Laser Skin Tightening

Why A Laser Treatment?

In the past, only invasive procedures worked to tighten the skin effectively. Face lifts were often performed on Hollywood stars to keep them looking younger. It was an expensive treatment that average people couldn’t afford. It also meant being admitted to the hospital for long periods until the skin had healed enough for appearing in public again.

That has all changed. With non-surgical options, clients don’t have to go to hospitals or even go under the knife anymore. Skin tightening can be done in a matter of an hour or two and clients go right back to their normal routine. The cost of these procedures has become affordable to almost everyone.

Can Anyone Perform Laser Treatments?

Not just anyone can pick up a cosmetic laser and start using it on a patient. Only certified technicians or medical personnel may use these machines. Training shows them how to use it in a manner that won’t harm the patient, what settings must be used for various skin types and tones, along with what skin conditions to avoid use with.

How Does Laser Skin Tightening Work?

The cosmetic laser uses a specific spectrum of light to create energy that is directed toward the deeper layer of skin. The light-based energy heats the cells to stimulate collagen production while also constricting the skin to tighten it. This method is non-ablative, meaning it does not harm the outer layer of skin. As a result, the body is still protected from infections and recovery time is minimal.

What Is Involved In The Procedure?

When a client first arrives for an appointment, they will need to fill out a medical history and answer questions about their current health status. Before beginning the procedure, the technician may apply a topical numbing cream to avoid any discomfort from the application. Using a medical grade laser, the technician will apply the device to the skin area being treated, going over the same areas several times to be thorough. The client will likely feel a warming sensation in the treated areas. Once completed, the technician will go over followup instructions and caring for the skin. Clients can return to their regular routine with some minor changes. Instructions usually include avoiding overexposure to the sun for a week, apply ice packs for any discomfort, and taking over-the-counter pain suppressants.

Other Options

Laser skin tightening is great for mild to moderate skin laxity, wrinkling, or cellulite. However, there are times when only plastic surgery will work. Losing a significant amount of weight in your later years when the skin no longer produces collagen will leave you with extreme sagging of the skin. There is no treatment available to improve the skin in this instance. Only plastic surgery will cut away the excess skin, resculpt the body, and tighten the skin’s appearance.
