Hot Trends In Glasses For Women
You might wear glasses to help you see better and keep your vision clear—but glasses can be so much more than just functional lenses. Lately, glasses have made a comeback as a fashion statement, so much so that some women have started wearing them even when they don’t need to. Whether you’re blind without them or have 20/20 vision, glasses for women are a hot accessory right now.
Since they were invented, wearing eyeglasses has always been associated with intelligence. While geek chic has become more popular in recent years, glasses don’t have to be nerdy to make you look smarter. Recently many celebrities have started sporting a sexy bookish look that is both elegant and intelligent. Glasses can be a perfect complement to a professional outfit, helping you feel smarter and more confident; but they can also give you a cool, trendy look. Let’s check out some of the different styles.
Colors and Patterns
Glasses come in all sorts of styles. The boring wire rims of yesteryear have been replaced with bold plastic and metal frames in a wide variety of colors. Fun shades like purple and yellow are popular this year. Pattern are making a comeback too, such as tortoiseshell and polka dots. Some frames have additional decoration, like molded plastic or rhinestones. You can get multiple pairs to match whatever you’re wearing that day—like shoes or purses, women’s glasses can be both functional and fun. Of course, if you still want something a little more understated, you can always get an elegant copper or silver frame that will go with almost anything.
Shapes
There are a wide variety of lens shapes, and they should be chosen carefully. Larger lenses will help the wearer look younger and make their eyes more visible. One of the oldest styles is perfectly round glasses, which have been around for almost a thousand years and made a resurgence in the sixties. Round glasses give you a retro, hip look. Lenses can also be more rectangular; these tend to be bold and sophisticated. The majority of lens shapes fall somewhere in between the two. One special kind of lens shape in glasses for women is the cat’s eye, which is rounder on top, squarer on the bottom, and pointed in the upper corners. These are very flattering and lend an exotic flair to your eyes.
Special Styles
Some shapes of glasses are so ubiquitous they deserve special mention. Aviator glasses are very popular as sunglasses, but can also appear as prescription lenses too. These have very large lenses with lots of vertical elongation. Originally designed as practical lenses for airmen and soldiers, they got picked up by celebrities and developed a classically cool look. Aviators look good on almost anybody.
Hipster glasses are a more recent development. Like the quintessential ‘nerd’ glasses, these tend to be thick, heavy, and rectangular. As geek chic has become more popular, hipster glasses have gained popularity among the young and urban crowd.
Fashion Glasses
With so many styles and types, it’s no wonder that glasses are making a fashion comeback. Whether they’re something you wear every day or an occasional accessory, your eyeglasses should be as original, fashionable, and beautiful as you are.
