How to Keep Your Skin Hydrated and Healthy Under a Face Mask
Wearing a mask has just become part of the norm. They’re everywhere – parks, streets, shops, pubs, classrooms, offices – and yet, they are quickly becoming unnoticeable.
We know why we wear them; they help to keep those around us safe.
But some problems are beginning to arise, and it’s not just the inability to see through your fogged-up glasses.
Oily skin, spots, and blackheads; everyone has them, but no one likes them. The term “maskne” is one you’ve probably heard, and you might even be suffering from it.
How can you keep your skin hydrated and healthy while wearing a face mask?
You need our guide.
1) Invest in some good quality moisturiser
The air is not always the best thing for your skin. It’s not just dry, it’s also full of things that can cause your skin to break out. Wearing a face mask can cause your skin to become stifled, so you should spend time making sure that your skin is not dry.
Part of this is all about hydration.
If you want to keep your skin hydrated while wearing a face mask, then your skin needs to be moisturised before you go and also when you get back.
If you can, follow our steps below:
- Apply some moisturiser to your face before you leave the house. This can be applied directly after washing.
- When you get home, wash your face to remove any dirt, make-up, and any other debris.
- Apply another layer of moisturiser to your face.
2) Switch up your product
If you’ve used a skincare product for a while, and you’re still struggling to get rid of your spots and blackheads, then it might be time for a change of a product.
You should always read the label before you buy, but also be sure to try out a few different types.
We all have different skins. Some of us have more oily skin than others. Some of us have more sensitive skin than others. This means that one product may work for one person, but not for another.
If you have oily skin, then look for a skin cleanser that is designed specifically for oily skin. This will help to reduce the amount of oil in your skin and to keep your skin healthy, even under your face mask.
If you have sensitive skin, then look for a face wash that is designed for sensitive skin. This will also help to keep your skin healthy and will reduce the chances of your skin becoming irritated.
Invest in some products that will help combat your skins’ issues, that will aid you in caring for your skin. In some circumstances, it might be best to visit a doctor who can suggest a skin product to fix your skin issues, such as acne caused by face masks.
Hydration is very important, so be on the look out for products that focus on that specifically, such as this rose oil for your face.
3) Take care of your skin at night
If you want to keep your skin hydrated, then you have to be sure that you take care of it once you are home and your face mask is off.
It’s almost like going to the gym, working out, then not showering after. Who would do that? No one, we hope. Our faces need to be cleansed of all the oil that builds up over the day, especially when a face mask can cause us to sweat more.
At night, we can set a routine of washing, moisturising, and applying additional products to our skin. Our skin retains more moisture when properly hydrated at night than during the day.
Keeping your skin hydrated and healthy is difficult. It’s much easier to just hide your face behind a mask and forget about your skin for a while.
But we recommend that you don’t do this. Instead, spend a little more time keeping your skin healthy and moisturised, and you’ll enjoy the benefits for years to come.
