Which Type of Cleanser is for You?

Spread the love

Cleansing is the most important step in any skincare routine. It’s necessary to clean off make-up, sweat, dirt, and environmental pollutants, and to prep the face in order to use and enhance other products in your regimen. Getting rid of build-up and having a clean slate to renew topical applications will prevent break-outs, premature signs of aging, and mitigate any other effects that products which are past their prime can cause. Plus, additional ingredients like vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and herbal essences add additional benefits for the skin.

There are many types of cleansers that all do one primary function – clean the skin – and come with secondary functions according to your needs. You’ll need to choose products that are best for your skin type – dry, oily, combination, sensitive, etc. The form that they come in is more of a personal preference that has to do with feel and practical reasons, like it’s easier to travel with a beauty bar because of liquid restrictions if you’re flying, and there is no bottle to break.

Check out the following review of cleanser types and some top-quality examples of products to try.

BEAUTY BAR

Simple, compact, and easy to take anywhere, beauty and cleansing bars are excellent cleaning companions. Unlike cheap, grocery store detergent bars that strip the skin, beauty bars are specially-formulated to clean and hydrate. Bars are great vehicles for ingredients like clay and charcoal.

Erno Laszlo beauty bar

Erno Laszlo’s world famous beauty products and skincare lines feature several bars that are cult favourites. The Phelityl Cleansing Bar is a pH-balanced bar that penetrates pores, is non-comedogenic, boosts cell turnover, and regulates skin’s oil production while cleansing.

CREAM CLEANSER

Thick and moisturizing, cream cleansers range from acne-fighting to providing hydrating and soothing botanicals. They won’t strip the skin and are meant to replenish and maintain moisture with a pleasant creamy feel.

Grown Alchemist’s Hydra-Restore Cream Cleanser with olive leaf and plantagoextract is a non-irritating, gentle creamy cleanser that conditions and purifies to prep for moisturizing.

FOAM CLEANSER

Lightweight and with a rich lather, they usually start out as a gel or cream and are worked into a rich foamy coating. They’re great at removing oil and impurities.

Erno Laszlo’s Hydra-Therapy Foaming Cleanse removes unwanted make-up, dirt, and oil, while nourishing and hydrating with fatty acids, pomegranate extract, and marula oil for a healthy glow.

GEL CLEANSER

Transparent gels are designed for deep cleaning. They penetrate while gliding on smoothly to unclog pores and kill bacteria.

Peter Thomas Roth’s Glycolic Solutions Cleanser is oil-free, exfoliating, and has anti-aging properties. Glycolic acid reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while Vitamin B5 nourishes and hydrates.

POWDER CLEANSER

Dry, fine, and soft: when water is added to them, powders thoroughly cleanse while becoming a creamy lather. They gently exfoliate without the use of harsh particles that can damage skin.

Gulsha’s Purifying Rose Dust buffs dead skin cells and surface impurities. Great for all skin types, it’s packed with antioxidants and pink clay to purge and detoxify for luminous skin. It’s best to use an alcohol-free toner after cleansing to further prep the skin for a moisturizer. All skin types need to maintain moisture levels to stay hydrated, plump, and to prevent over-drying and breakouts.
