Why you can NEVER have enough shoes
I believe it’s a woman’s prerogative to have lots of shoes, as many pairs as she wants/needs (same thing, right?). After all, for learning how to effectively multi-task and complete at least 4 jobs at once, it’s only right that she has a suitable pair of shoes to meet the needs of whatever role she is performing at the time!
Unlike the rest of your body, your feet never really change size regardless of whether the rest of your body does. Therefore, investing in a really great (if a little pricey) pair of shoes feels worthwhile as they will be with you for several years to come.
It is said that every woman should have at least 6 pairs of shoes to take them through life. Whether you have more than this is entirely up to you, but the following shoes should form the backbone of your shoe collection:
1. Work Shoes
Depending on whether you work in an office, shop, or busy factory environment, you should own a comfortable pair of well-fitting smart shoes that will easily take you from 9-5 and back again. These may be a smart pair of flat black pumps, or a pair of safety shoes for women.
When selecting work shoes, you should consider the following:
- They must be comfortable
- They must be made out of lightweight, breathable material
- They must provide excellent arch support
- They must have good heel support
- They must be flexible when you walk
2. Flip Flops
These summer staples are a must in any female’s wardrobe. They’re comfortable, will never go out of style and cheap enough to consider investing in a few pairs in a range of colours.
Flip flops are the next best thing to going barefoot; most of your foot is exposed and your feet are free to breathe. It’s also very easy to slip them on and off.
3. Strappy summer sandals
Strappy summer sandals are the grown up alternative to the flip flop and will take you effortlessly from the beach to a smart exotic restaurant. The majority of your foot is exposed, leaving your feet cool and looking fabulous.
4. Glamorous going out shoes
These include any shoes with a heel over 4 inches that make you want to cry with pain when you’ve been wearing them any longer than an hour. Yes they’re impractical, yes they will probably give you bunions in later lifebut boy do they look good!
5. Sports trainers
Okay, they may well sit in your wardrobe collecting dust for the majority of the year, but what else will you wear during January when you venture out to the gym (once) in a bid to stick to your new years fitness resolution.
Trainers are also handy for popping into your bag before venturing onto a mammoth shopping session. You just know your feet with be grateful when you slip these on after lunch and will allow you to squeeze an extra few shops in.
6. Long boots
Investing in a good quality pair of long handmade leather boots that rise to at least your calf will be money well spent. They can be worn in both professional and casual environments and will keep your feet and legs deliciously warm and dry, whatever the weather.
