Stress Management Hacks for the Workplace
Work-related stress is something that everyone deals with at some point. When you spend so much of your time at the office, it can be difficult to snap out of “work mode” when you clock out at the end of the day. Work stress can often carry over into your downtime, and can have a negative effect on your personal life without you even realizing it. If you’re experiencing work-related stress, here are some hacks for how to better cope with it.
Get Some Fresh Air
Sometimes when you’re feeling stressed, all you need is to go for a walk and get some fresh air. Being cooped up in an office all day is enough to make anyone go stir crazy, which is why it is important to stretch your legs and stay active throughout the day. Even on the busiest days, you should still make time to go for a brisk walk around the block and get your blood pumping. Many companies have started incorporating walking meetings into their daily routines, as a way to get some fresh air while also being productive.
Talk To Your Coworkers
If you’re feeling stressed and overwhelmed at work, there’s a good change your coworkers are, too. After all, you’re going through the same experience together, and coworkers can be great people to lean on when you’re feeling like this. If you’re feeling overwhelmed and need to step away from your desk for a few minutes, ask a coworker if they want to grab coffee with you. It’ll do you good to get out of the office for a bit, and you’ll have the chance to talk with your coworker on a more personal level.
Have Something To Look Forward To
When you work full-time, it can sometimes feel like your whole life exists within the office. Having something to look forward to after work or at the end of a long week can reduce your stress levels and help you get through the week. Think of something exciting you have coming up. Maybe you have tickets to see your favorite band, or you’re looking at San Diego homes for sale over the weekend. Whatever it is that you have to look forward to, remember that the stress you may be feeling at work is only temporary, and that you have a life outside of work.
Get A Good Night’s Sleep
The amount of sleep you get the night before is indicative to the kind of day you’ll have, so make sure you’re getting between 7-9 hours of sleep each night. When we don’t get enough sleep, it can be hard to perform at work the next day, and feeling exhausted can lead to feelings of stress and anxiety. When you’re running on only a few hours of sleep, your brain can’t properly function, making for an unpleasant work day. If you’re feeling stressed and just generally exhausted at work, try going to sleep a little earlier and see how you feel.
