DIY Jean Diaper Cake Tutorial for Baby Boy
Jean Diapers, with their blue denim look, are ideal to create a Diaper Cake for a baby boy. Although the diapers are pant-style which are used only after the baby is old enough to toddle around, all moms will tell you that the day arrives sooner than they thought – and babies still need their share of diaper-budgets at that age. So, don’t let the fact that pant-style diapers are not for newborns discourage you from using them in diaper cakes. This lovely diaper cake will be cherished and used long after many of the other baby shower gifts are no longer in use.
Here is a quick and easy idea for putting together a blue colored Diaper Cake with Denim look diapers. The base of the cake is formed using a large paper mache box which holds more gifts for the baby! The top and bottom layers are overlapped/no-rolling-required diapers and the middle layer is rolled to give a textured look.
Here are the supplies I used to make this diaper cake for a friend:
A large blue box and 2 large packs of Jean Diapers. The box held other gifts for the baby and makes great storage for the baby’s room later. In addition to the above, you will also need:
- Large Rubber Bands
- Wide Ribbon
- Pearl Headed Pins
- Any other decorations
A hooded towel and a pack of Carter’s onesies rolled up tightly (as they arrive in the pack) were the other goodies that went inside the box. The tiny blue bottle is reserved for the cake topper.
Overlap the diapers over each other covering the entire circumference of the box.
See the picture above for how-to. When the box sides are covered, secure with a large rubber band.
For the next tier, roll up each jean diaper and form a bunch wide enough to cover the top of the box. Secure the tightly rolled diapers together with another rubber band.
For the topmost tier, overlap the diapers as in the first tier and roll them up together to form a spiral. With no box to go around, this one will form a smaller mass perfect for the top tier.
Secure with a rubber band. Now, push down the baby bottle in the center. It will hold tightly.
That’s it! Time to decorate!
First, cover the rubber bands with the ribbon. Tie bows or secure the ribbon at the back with pearl headed pins. Next, add some decorations like small baby toys etc. My cake was for a Christmas baby shower, so I used miniature keepsake glass ornaments to decorate.
Note: If needed, use pearl headed pins to secure the layers to each other.
