Bali’s Greatest Shopping Destinations

Spread the love

The Indonesian island of Bali is renowned for its great beaches and nightlife, but with a treasure trove of antique furniture, artwork, handmade jewellery, masks, wood and stone carvings, woven and dyed fabrics and a wealth of world renowned designer brands, it’s a paradise for shoppers too!

From colourful open air markets to modern air-conditioned mall, there really is something for everyone. Pick up a bargain and shop ‘til you drop with our guide to the best shopping destinations in Bali.

Monkey Forest Road

Known as a famous landmark in central Ubud, Monkey Forest Road is home to a number of international brands as well as sophisticated shops selling local designs, art shops and plenty of antique outlets. It happens to be one of my favourite places in Bali. Once you’re all shopped out, the street also offers a number of restaurants, bars and cafes where you can relax and enjoy some refreshments.

Discovery Shopping Mall

Discovery Shopping Mall Bali

Located in Kuta’s prime area, Discovery Shopping Mall is the only mall with a seafront view. As well as facilities such as banks, cafes, restaurants, opticians and amusement arcades, the mall also houses a variety of book shops, home accessories and jewellery stores and a variety of international brand outlets such as Guess, Esprit and many more.

Tegallalang ‘Handicrafts Village’

bali wood carving

Tegallalang and its surrounding villages specialise in carving softwood figures and you’ll see plenty of brightly painted frogs, flowers, geckos, ducks, cats and other animals. This 12km stretch of road shops is also home to sellers offering furniture and other handicrafts made from shells, glass, wood, bamboo and ceramics, and most are much better quality than anything you’ll find at other more popular markets.

Bali Collection

Bali Collection department store

This high-end department store features a whole host of world famous brand names and retailers alongside local favourites alongside spa centres, places to eat and drink and much more in this open-space shopping square. Unlike many other shopping destinations on the island, The Bali Collection is clean, conveniently laid out and well maintained with trees and benches.

Jenggala

Jenggala Pottery, Bali

JenggalaKeramik is Bali’s most significant pottery maker, and this shop and workshop is the place to find the very best quality. Founded as a pottery boutique by the late New Zealand designer and potter Brett Hesselyn and late Indonesian businessman WijaWaworuntu in 1979, Jenggala was originally located in Sanur before moving to its current location at Jimbaran and now sells high-quality pottery and glassware to buyers all over the world.

Kuta Art Market

For a more traditional shopping experience, head to Kuta Art Market where you can pick up locally made souvenirs. Don’t accept the first price you’re offered, and be sure to haggle politely to snap up a bargain. It’s helpful to decide how much you’re willing to pay for an item before you start bartering.

Celuk Village

Famous as being a village of gold and silversmiths, Celuk is located further along the road towards Ubud and offers a plethora of gold and silver jewellery including bangles, bracelets, rings, earrings, brooches, hair pins and many other accessories decorated with mother of pearl. A smith or small shop owner lies behind almost every door in the village – ideal if you’re looking for the perfect piece to complement a romantic proposal!
