California Dreaming: Doing L.A. justice
As holiday destinations go, there are few better than Los Angeles. The Californian city really does have it all going on and a trip there does make for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Below are a few things you should see and do.
Venice Beach
by LosAnheles
Probably the most famous beach in the world, Venice is unreal. The boardwalk features quite heavily in LA-based movies, but not even the geniuses in Hollywood can do the beach justice. Whether you want to have a dip in the sea, relax in the sand, or just people watch, you will be able to do it in style.
Dodger Stadium
by Sam Howzit
Sport plays a huge role in American culture. Somewhat surprisingly, L.A. is devoid of an American Football team, but their baseball team is unbelievably good and even better supported. Dodger Stadium is always at full capacity and being around 56,000 screaming fans is enjoyable for whoever you are. The Dodgers are one of the favourites in the baseball betting to win the World Series this year, so this summer is the perfect chance to watch them.
Universal Studios, Hollywood
by scmikeburton
You cannot go to L.A. and not take a tour of one of the Hollywood film studios. In this regard, there are none better than Universal Studios. The theme park has everything you could ever wish for, with themed rides including The Fast and Furious, The Simpsons, King Kong, and Shrek. It is not just the rides that are of interest, the studio tour is also brilliant. Sets included are Wisteria Lane of Desperate Housewives fame, Jaws, and the War of the Worlds.
Rodeo Drive
by Davmi Pics
Found in Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive is the best place to shop in the world. Can you notice a recurring theme here? With three blocks of shops, you will be able to get your fix and, with America being so cheap, you will be able to get plenty of bang for your buck. Shops include Bvlgari, Burberry, Chanel, Dior and so on. Every fashion house you could ever dream of visiting is situated here.
Sunset Strip
After a long day on your feet, there is only one way to reward yourself. Stick on some heels and head down the Sunset Strip. This mile-and-a-half stretch is the epicentre of L.A.’s nightlife, which is at the very cutting edge. People are familiar with Strip due to its wall-to-wall advertising, and of course its establishments. Famous clubs include Whiskey a Go Go – the launching pad of both The Doors and Guns ‘N’ Roses, the Viper Room – the venue where River Phoenix fatally overdosed, The Roxy Theatre and The Troubadour. It does not matter where you have been before, you will never have partied like you will party on the strip.
