How to Cope on a Long Haul Flight
Long haul flights. You either love them or you hate them. Scratch that; you hate them. While you might consider this flight as an opportunity to catch up on some work or go to sleep for a few hours, you might be a little surprised. While you can get a bit of kip and finish some work on a long haul flight, you’ll need other things to keep you occupied. Here are some tips to keep you going:
Upgrade
If you can blag yourself an upgrade, then make sure you do so. You may already be in first class with your Air Asia tickets, in which case you can skip this part. However, if not, you might strike it lucky if you ask nicely. It might help if it’s your birthday or you’re pregnant; something that will make you a priority over other people. However, if you haven’t secured a first class seat, don’t get your hopes up.
Take Some Work
Although you won’t be able to work for the entire flight, you could take some with you if you have any that you need to get finished. This should take up a little of your time, but be warned; it probably won’t make the hours fly by. Ideally, you need to find things that make the hours fly by as if they never existed.
Watch Films
Films, glorious films. These can help to make the hours fly by, providing you watch the right ones. Make sure you have some quality headphones with you so you can enjoy them properly. They might show films on the plane, but you may want to load up your tablet with some alternatives just in case none take your fancy. I would say make sure you have lots of music with you, but I prefer music to be the background when I’m exercising up cleaning. On a flight, even listening to music can be boring.
Take a Great Book
Great books can seriously make the hours ‘disappear’ into thin air. It can be tough to find a book that grabs you and holds on until the very end, so read reviews first and choose one that has lots of positive comments. You may want to stock up on a couple, just in case. This is why Kindles can be great for flights, as they don’t take up as much room as books. They also have multiple functions for you to play with!
Take Basic Survival Tools
The basic survival tools of a long haul flight can be subject to change depending on your likes and dislikes. However, I suggest you take a flight pillow, noise cancelling earphones, and an eyemask. At least this way, you can get a few hours kip if you need to. I doubt you’ll be able to get any sleep at all if you don’t take them! It’s also advisable that you go on the flight fairly well rested. Aeroplane sleep is never high quality!
Have a great time in your destination, but most of all, have a fab flight!
