How To Travel Abroad On A Budget
We all love a holiday and we often deserve one, but sometimes our funds are limited and we have to work with a budget. Don’t you worry though, because we have collated our top tips on how to travel abroad on a budget and we are going to share them with you!
#1 Have A Savings Pot
Our first tip is to have a savings pot. An old glass, pot or anything that can hold coins is perfect for this. Put it somewhere safe in your house and gradually save up as you go. Put your change in the savings pot daily, weekly, or monthly and over time this will collate to a larger amount that you can put towards your trip as spending money. You could also put away a percentage of your wages each month and over a year they would add up and pay for your flights or hotel. Put this money in a safe account and don’t touch it (unless it’s an emergency) and within no time, that money will have added up rather nicely.
#2 Stay In Hostels
Hostels can be a really fun and cheap way to travel. Sometimes when staying in a hostel you may stay in a room with other people but private rooms are often available. Whatever the case, this gives you an opportunity to meet new, exciting people whilst travelling. Not only is a hostel room cheap, but some also have free food, particularly for breakfast. If you are planning on travelling for a long period, you could even look up any job vacancies in the hostel you are staying at, giving you the chance to earn whilst travelling or earn a free room.
#3 Plan Your Trip Way In Advance
The cost of travel and rooms, especially abroad, increase in price as you get closer to the date. We recommend that you book and plan your trip way in advance. This way you can get the best deals at the best prices. Remember to plan your travels around off-peak travel times – Off-peak times may vary from one country to another, however, so be aware of this. Don’t rush into your plans and take your time to research the best prices! Check out some ways to get a free onboard upgrade.
#4 Travel Light
Avoid checked luggage fees and take carry-on luggage only. Hostels usually have washing machines (check this before you go!) and in most cases, you can fit all your clothes into a rucksack or small suitcase.Roll your clothes up and put your underwear and socks in neatly to save space. Only take enough clothes for the period of time you are there. You only need one pair of shoes which you can wear to travel to keep your luggage light. Plan your daily activities in advance too, so you avoid bringing any extra clothes which you won’t wear.
#5 Visit Free Places
Check out the sights and beautiful scenery for free! Most destinations will have something free to do in the local area and if all else fails, you could take a walking tour or a hike to save money on transport and still see the sights. Visit museums and art galleries and take free classes to meet the local people. Embrace the culture of the country by eating food from the local markets too, as this will often be much cheaper than tourist-trap restaurants or cafes.
Use these tips to stick to your budget and you could be jetting off in no time. Happy travelling!
