High Energy Snack Recipes
Stock up on energy and cut back calories with these smart high energy snack recipes to keep you company throughout your walking fitness challenge or any other weight loss program. These snacks will provide a boost of energy and nutrients and are easy to eat on the go.
Quick Energy Bars
2 cups | Rolled oats | 500 mL |
1/4 cup | Sunflower seeds | 50 mL |
1/2 cup | Bran flakes | 125 mL |
1 tbsp | Flaked coconut | 15 mL |
1 cup | Assorted dried fruits, chopped | 250 mL |
1/2 cup | Peanut butter | 125 mL |
1/2 cup | Honey | 125 mL |
Preheat oven to 350°F. Place oatmeal and sunflower seeds on 13 x 9 baking pan. Bake 12-15 minutes. Stir in bran flakes, coconut and dried fruit. Place in bowl. In saucepan, over medium-low heat, melt peanut butter and honey; add to oatmeal mixture. Press mixture into greased 8 inch square pan. Let cool; cut into bars.
Makes 12 servings.
Yogurt Smoothie
8 oz | Low-fat vanilla yogurt | 250 mL |
1 | Medium-ripe banana | 1 |
1 cup | Sliced strawberries | 250 mL |
1/4 cup | Orange juice concentrate | 50 mL |
1/4 tsp | Cardamon | 1 mL |
1/2 tsp. | Vanilla extract | 2 mL |
1 cup | Crushed ice | 250 mL |
Place all ingredients in blender. Blend on high. Serve immediately.
Makes 2 servings.
