Hanukkah Crafts for Kids

(FeatureSource) – Include your toddler to ten-year-old in this year’s Hanukkah festivities by helping them make these crafts from Trish Kuffner’s “Busy Book “ series (Meadowbrook Press).

Hanukkah Rubbings from “The Toddler’s Busy Book”

Cut Hanukkah symbols from posterboard or use Hanukkah cards with raised Hanukkah symbols on the front. Place the cutouts on the table, put paper over them, and show your child how to rub a crayon sideways over the paper to create a rubbing of the symbol beneath.

Menorah from “The Preschooler’s Busy Book”

Make a Hanukkah menorah using nine empty thread spools to hold large birthday candles. If the candles are loose, use some playdough to make them fit. Make the menorah more festive by covering the spools with aluminum foil. Your child could also display the candles by making shapes with playdough or modeling clay and inserting the candles, or by standing candles in a shoe box filled with sand.

Patchwork Star of David from “The Children’s Busy Book”

Cut a triangle with three equal sides, each about 1 1/2 inches long, from cardboard. Trace the triangle on fabric scraps and cut out 12 triangles. On a piece of cardboard, your child can arrange six of the triangles to form the points of a Star of David (the bases of the triangles join to form an empty hexagon in the middle) and glue into place. Put the remaining triangles in the middle to fill up the hexagon and glue into place. Cut around the outline of the star. You could glue a small loop of ribbon to the back of the star an edge for hanging.
