Easter/Spring Travel Tips and Ideas by ‘Lilliput Guidebook’ author Cate Latting
Frommers travel editor and ‘Traveling with Kids’ expert Cate Latting, who has created the ultimate fun book for Gulliver’s fans, a ‘Lilliput Guidebook’ to commemorate the DVD release ‘Gulliver’s Travels’ on April 19, shares some very creative ideas and her fondest memories of Easter and Spring Travel in an exclusive interview with Dot Com Women.
Frommers® was featured in Gullivers Travels, and they, in turn, thought it would be fun to celebrate the April 19th Blu-ray and DVD release of the movie with an official Frommers guidebook to Lilliput. As Cate puts it, “Though I approached the writing as I would any guidebook, it was fun and inspiring to write about a non-existent place.”
Gulliver’s Travels and What Kids Can Learn from it
Gullivers tall tales and heroic deeds in the movie win the hearts of the tiny Lilliputians and through it all, Gulliver learns that its how big you are on the inside that counts. As a travel editor, Latting is of the opinion that the best message of the movie is that of embracing new places and experiences. When you travel somewhere new you should get to know your destination, talk with the locals, find out what makes them tick. Though Gulliver didnt mean to end up in Lilliput, he fell in love with it by embracing its people and learning about their culture. This is a great lesson that any traveler, young or old, can benefit from.
And when watching the movie at home with your kids, here’s what Latting thinks we can all educate our kids from this immortal story:
1. Dont lie. You can see what kind of trouble it got Gulliver into. 2. Be loyal. Friendship is everything. Stand up for your buddies. 3. Do whats right. Youll always come out on top in the end.
Easter and Spring Break Travel
Latting recalls her favorite memories of Easter holidays and Spring Breaks skiing in Colorado. “Its a great time of year to hit the slopes”, she says. “The days have warmed up quite a bit, but theres still snow on the ground. I remember plenty of sunny days skiing in t-shirts and ski pants. If we were there on Easter Sunday, wed always hit the slopes first thing in the morning, when lots of other people were spending time at church or with family. Wed head home mid-day to have some down-time together and a big Easter dinner, right about the time the masses were heading to the mountain.”
