Three Common Misconceptions About TV Antennas
I love kicking back and watching my favourite television shows in the evening. When I’ve had a hard, long and busy day at work, I really enjoy kicking off my shoes, changing into a pair of comfy sweatpants, ordering a Thai takeaway and then relaxing in front of the TV for an hour or two. Don’t get me wrong – it’s not something I do every night (most evenings, I’m out with friends or checking out a band) but when I have an evening free, I like to spend it vegging out. Who’s with me? I’ve read studies on the benefits of relaxation, and know that so long as I’m not glued to the TV twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, I’m ok. I recently got a new antenna installed in my home because I wanted to have access to more channels. I assumed that I would have to get a big cable TV package installed and to have to pay a lot of money, but I found out that with a TV antenna, I would be able to watch heaps more of my favourite channels without paying a cent! Misconception One: TV antenna installation isn’t going to give you good channels
One of the biggest bits of misinformation out there is that you need to have cable to get good channels. This just isn’t true. Depending on the area of Australia that you live in, you can access dozens of really high quality (and free) channels that provide a huge range of interesting viewing material – for free! You can pick up channels that are dedicated to music, radio, movies and more. Many people are still stuck in the dark ages with their ideas about TV antennas, but the truth is so much more exciting.
Misconception Two: Your sound and picture quality won’t be great
Yes, this is another fake bit of information. The quality of the broadcast you’re receiving from free-to-air TV is excellent. It’s high-definition and totally uncompressed. So if you play TV from your antenna and TV from your cable box, you’re going to notice that the TV antenna is providing television that is actually better quality. In order to give you hundreds of channels to your TV at once, the cable provider has to compress the source which means that you get a dip in the quality of your viewing products. You don’t need to worry about the video or sound from your TV Antenna
Misconception Three: TV antennas are finicky and hard to use
As long as your antenna is properly installed and set up, and that you buy the right kind of antenna for your home, you’ll find that you hardly have to deal with it at all. You can buy a great antenna for a great price and be set up with picture perfect viewing in no time.
