Tips for Rejuvenating Traditional Holiday Décor

(ARA) – After years of use, holiday décor can become old and lifeless. Breathe life back into those cherished ornaments, wreaths and stockings with a little inspiration and a few fresh ideas. The makers of Perfect Glue offer these helpful tips for updating your holiday season. Add dazzle to dated décor. Instead of reusing the same decorations this season, create chic twists on traditional décor. Take an old, tattered tablecloth and make it new again by gluing poinsettias to the trim. Give stockings a fresh look by gluing mini ornaments along the top cuff. Create excitement for all who enter through the front door by replacing flowers in a wreath with white feathers and glittered ornaments.

Create a flurry of excitement for holiday snacks. Whether you are taking treats to a holiday party or serving food at your own get-together, even the most mundane food can be enticing. Create festive snowman toppers with pressed cotton balls, pipe cleaners and felt scraps to adorn the top of your holiday hors d’oeuvres. Don’t forget the serving platters; make your own using foam rounds and decorative paper. You can even embellish them with ribbon, fringe and other small accents. Reinvent a holiday tradition. For over 150 years, people have used advent calendars to count down the days of December. This year, hang your handmade creation on a garland stretched across the fireplace or down the stair rail. For each stocking representing the remaining days before Christmas, lightly trace around a stocking template onto cardstock and decorative papers; cut out. Apply a thin layer of Perfect Glue 1 along edges of the stocking shape, avoiding the top edge. Fit another stocking shape over that one, pressing gently. Repeat until you have created 24 stockings. Next, cut ribbon into twenty-four, 1 1/2 inch pieces to create loops for hanging. Loop the ribbon and attach to the inside of the stocking with a bead of glue. Decorate stockings with any embellishments you desire. Number the small tags 1 through 24 and tie a numbered tag onto each loop. String the stockings in numerical order through the cording or ribbon, making a knot at each end to hold stockings in place. Leave at least one foot of cording or ribbon on each end to allow for mounting. Finally, stuff each stocking with candy or “gifts of kindness” written on strips of paper, such as “Today I will help cook dinner.” Tack to the wall, mantle or other desired area. By adding new decorative elements to holiday favorites, your décor will remain lively and exciting while maintaining your family’s traditions and memories.
