So you’re in a long distance relationship. First all, congratulations on being willing to put in some extra hard work to make your relationship work and second of all, don’t panic. Not every long distance relationship is meant to fail. That’s just an assumption society stuck on long distance relationships. The majority of these relationships do work and well, it just depends on how hard you work to maintain a strong connection with your partner.

How to Deal with a Long-Distance Relationship

1. Talk everyday

This is key when having a long distance relationship. Thanks to technology, this is much easier than it seems. Skype is a free along with Facebook and you can use video chat. Communicating everyday will help to keep you both crazy in love with each other because you are maintaining a powerful emotional connection. This is all you have left until you can see other again.

2. Appreciate what you have

Be grateful that you still have your partner in your life even though they are miles away from reach. You will have those days where you see a couple holding hands and feel sad because your partner isn’t there. Just remind yourself what you have, accept your relationship for how it is and practise a bit of optimism. You will see other again.

3. Have fun

4. Time difference

Time can greatly alter a person’s perspective. If where they are is night time and you’re all ready to start your day, your partner might not sound as energised as you are on the phone because they ready to go to bed. By taking into account each other’s schedules you can plan a good time to speak to each other. Avoid talking to your partner when you’re feeling bothered by something you have to do or when you’re ready to turn in.

5. Spending time with other people

Your partner will spend time with other people and so will you. It is up to you if you want to stay faithful and committed to the relationship. If you’re having dinner with someone, just make sure that your partner doesn’t take this the wrong way and communicate what you’re doing clearly.

6. Plan out your visits

Save your money and make sure you have several visits planned to see each other locked in the calendar. Seeing this will not only give you something to look forward too, but it also gives your relationship direction and you can see how you two are going on the relationship front.

7. Send each other things

Post gifts to your partner and keep them as a surprise. Get a florist to deliver flowers regularly and other little treats. This will help keep your relationship alive and healthy because this is a symbol of your courtship.
