Searching Within – Oprah & Deepak Meditation Challenge Day 18
Each one of us comes into this world complete and whole. We do not need anyone else to ‘complete’ us or their opinions about us to judge ourselves. All our needs and desires for love can be fulfilled by finding it within us. This was the essence of the teachings of Day 18 of the Miraculous Relationships meditation challenge hosted by Oprah and Deepak Chopra.
Miraculous Independence
From Day 1, I have learned in this challenge that I am a complete, divine creation, lovable and loved by nature and that I do not need anyone else to validate my existence or importance. It is important to constantly remind ourselves of this fact. Looking good to other people is only sought by our ego, who desires validation from others. Within us is the home of love and acceptance and it should be our constant endeavour to desire validation from only our soul. Instead of seeking approval elsewhere, we should look within and know that we are loved and accepted by our soul. As we were reminded on Day 2, the love we are looking for, is looking for us. It is already present in our core. As our centering thought for the day aimed to enlighten us:
All I seek is within
When we stop looking within, our insecure ego takes over. It makes us believe that in order to be accepted, we need a ‘perfect’ body, skin and even riches. Chasing perfection takes away our valuable time and energy, that could have been put to better use in living a fabulously divine and content life. Instead of chasing somebody’s good opinion about us, we just begin to ‘let go’ of such futile exercises because we know we do not need it.
Chasing something requires a lot of effort. Letting go takes none. In fact, Release is Energising! – Deepak Chopra
A New Love Affair
Each one of us are fully-formed individuals who come together to co-create this world. No one is less or more important than the other. The awareness of this fact makes us less and less insecure and dependent on others. With the realization that we already have everything we need and desire, we give up the exhausting search to find that person or situation or achievement to make us feel whole.
Commit to loving yourself today! Treat yourself as the most precious being in the universe – because you are! This will end your exhausting ‘chase’ for perfection and love, and open a whole new world of possibilities. Instead of waiting for someone to come and ‘complete’ you, awaken to the fact that you are complete and perfectly loved. You will find it easier to share your newly found love and energy because you will no longer need to spend it in gaining acceptance and approval from others.
Meditation
The meditation flew seamlessly from the centering thought as we meditated on the mantra ‘Om Bhavam Namah’. It means ‘I am absolute existence. I am a field of possibilities’. With a gentle flow of breath, I find it easier to chant these longer mantras (in my mind) by breaking them into two parts. ‘Om’ usually forms the first part that goes with inhalation and the rest of the mantra comes effortlessly as I exhale. I hope this helps you in forming a rhythmic movement for your breath while meditating on the mantras too.
Namaste.
