Advice for Women: How to Save Money on Your Car Insurance

Spread the love

Women are busier than ever before. Between getting college degrees and raising children, modern women have a lot of responsibilities to keep straight. This can make it hard to prioritize saving money on car insurance, but it’s an important knowledge everyone should obtain so they stop wasting money.

Advice for Women: How to Save Money on Your Car Insurance

Most people don’t have a good knowledge of how to get discounts, and women who are concerned about other important things are not going to feel they have the opportunity to learn. That’s why it’s vital to get as many basic tips as possible about how to save money on car insurance. We’re here to help with that.

We’ll talk about the advantages and disadvantages of insurance brokers. We’ll also discuss how women have specific advantages over men in getting cheaper car insurance. Things like career choice and college education can work in a woman’s favor to get even more money taken off of a car insurance policy.

Maintain a Clean Driving Record

People sometimes believe that women are not as skilled in driving a car as men, but this couldn’t be further from the truth in the eyes of insurance companies. Women often get better rates than men even when every other factor is accounted for.

This fact means that if a man and a woman apply for the same policy, with the same car model and driving record, women often get better rates. Why is this?

There is a lot of statistical evidence insurance companies use to determine their rates for customers. Women have been proven in many ways to be safer drivers than men. Companies offering women cheaper rates are doing so because they have had fewer women file claims or get into car accidents.

Men buy more sports cars than women, and they often get more speeding tickets. All these pieces of evidence come together to influence what quotes a company will give a man versus a woman. But how can women influence these prices individually? How can they take even greater advantage of this system?

Keep Your Old Car

A lot of people may like the frills and fun that come with buying a new car, but these vehicles can also have expensive insurance policies. There are some methods people can take to make sure their older cars last a little longer, though.

Men don’t often think it’s important to show their daughters how to care for their cars. But women should take the initiative as adults to learn about basic car care. Doing so will help women keep their old cars for longer instead of having to buy new ones that have more expensive insurance policies.

When you repair your car more often, you have a chance to keep it longer, avoiding the expense that comes with buying a new vehicle. New vehicles are often more expensive to insure than older ones. For example, most insurance companies are going to charge more to repair a 2021 Chevrolet Corvette than a 1999 Honda Civic.

Insurance companies are not going to explicitly give better prices to a car that is maintained well. The insurance benefits talked about here come from not having to pay for a policy on a new car because you still have your old one.

Go to College

More women are going to college than men in 2022, and many insurance benefits come in return for students and graduates. Starting with the former, people who are in college can show their grades to their insurance company. If you have a good grade point average, that’s a sign that you’re a responsible person.

Companies will often give good student discounts to these people. And because so many women are going to college now, they are reaping these benefits more often than men. Those who have graduated from college and have a degree can continue getting discounts depending on their career choice.

One job that is still dominated by women is teaching and education. Those who go into education are often responsible and care about other people more than the rest of the population. It is a very selfless job. In turn, insurance companies see that educators are more likely to drive carefully and keep others safe.

Women continue to go into this field in droves, and they should ask their providers about their potential discounts if they are teachers. There are other professions women are going into that can result in insurance discounts, such as anything in the medical field.

Work Remotely

The pandemic made it hard for women to go into their jobs in the office like before. Child care is not the same as it was before. Moms have to try and juggle their jobs and take care of their kids during the day now. This means remote working has become a way of life for many modern mothers.

Working from your couch means you won’t be going on the road nearly as often. Less driving means less risk of getting into an accident. Some states have usage-based insurance policies. Women who work remotely need to talk to their agents about getting a discount if they are putting less mileage on their vehicles than before and live in one of these states.

Metromile is one of the companies innovating in usage-based insurance, but Allstate and Progressive are not far behind. These policies are sometimes based on how much you drive weekly, and sometimes they’re determined by monthly driving.

Get a Broker

Getting an insurance broker is a great option if you don’t know about insurance in general. The broker works for you, not the insurance company. They will do the hard part of finding the coverages and comparing the rates. Brokers show you the results of their work, and you can choose which company you want to work with.

Make sure you do further research after your broker gives you the initial estimates. This will help you discern what insurance is good for you, while also learning from your broker. It streamlines the process for women who are busy with work and taking care of their kids.

These are just some of the ways that women can easily get insurance discounts. They don’t take a lot of time. Just look at what advantages you already have over other customers, and talk to your insurer about how to get discounts for them. Career, education level, and driving record are things you can control. Don’t forget these things when shopping around.
