10 Things You Must Do Before You Move
Moving can be a stressful experience as you attempt to get everything sorted in time for the big day, so it’s nice to have a handy checklist to tick off to ensure you’re ready to go and hey – here’s one created just for you!
- Change your address
Numerous places and items require notification of your new address, so it’s best to get these forms filled and phone calls made before the big day. Here’s a quick list of who needs to know:
- Your place of work
- The DVLA (your driving license and V5 need amending)
- Your bank
- Car and home insurance companies
- Energy suppliers
- TV license company
- Broadband and TV
- Have a clear out
There’s no better time than when moving home to get your things in order and have a good old fashioned clear out. Sell some items at a car boot sale to make a little extra cash that could go towards a pair of new curtains in your new place or some scatter cushions for the sofa.
- Defrost the freezer
You’ll thank yourself later when you do this at least a week before your moving day.
- Get a quote from several removal companies
You need to be armed with a fair few quotes before you settle with one removal company, as well as checking around and getting some recommendations from friends and family.
- Clean your house
Whether you’re selling your home or moving out of rented accommodation you need to ensure it is clean before you go. Insurance companies are very good at finding loopholes, so ensure you double check your home cover stretches across your moving date and your new home, on the correct dates.
