Ideas to Amuse the Kids this Autumn
Get Picking
Make the most of the delicious fruit which adorns the wild bushes in your local area. Autumn is the prime season for picking the wild blackberries that thrive in the surrounding area. Take a walk past the fringes of parks and into nearby trails and fields, you will spot the tangy fruit when they are ripe as they look all chubby and shiny. It is a fun and exciting activity to take children picking. Then you can use them as your prime ingredient in a lovely pie or crumble.
Head to the Park
Make the most of the pleasant weather before the winter nights draw in. Head to the local skate park and get the kids out in the fresh air. Kids love scooters, and they seem to be a hit with parents too as they encourage children to be active and to socialise with other children. Visit Skatehut – they have a great selection to suit everyone.
Make The Most of Nature’s Free Toys!
Don’t forget the age-old sport of conkers. This traditional game has been played by children all over the world for generations. Collect conkers that have fallen to the ground and are peeping through their thick green protective casing. A winning conker should look strong and symmetrical. Make a hole in the conker so that string can be threaded through, tying a knot at the bottom. Then two opponents swing their conkers and the first one to break wins.
Decorate Your House, Courtesy Of Mother-Nature
Autumn brings an abundance of colours and textures. Clad your family in their wellington boots and make the most of the nearby trails and bridleways to enjoy the beauty of this season with your children. Encourage them to look for acorns and pine cones, and pretty leaves. Then, once you are at home, paint and decorate your findings during a crafty afternoon.
Practice your Halloween Skills
Carving a pumpkin lantern is one of the best ways to create a Halloween atmosphere. It can take a little practice to get it right, but it is a fun activity for a rainy afternoon. We have some easy face pumpkin stencils perfect for kids. Get your little one to mark out the spooky face on the pumpkin, and then you make the cuts. If it’s soft enough, let the kids spoon out the insides. You can make use of the whole vegetable by using the flesh to make soups or other delicious dishes.
You’ll be the envy of the neighbourhood come October 31st!
