What Does Surrogacy Cost?

Surrogacy is a special type of reproductive medicine. Thanks to this method, many childless couples in which, according to medical indications, the wife could not bear the child, became happy parents. With the advent of modern technology, this service is becoming more common. Today it is available in Ukraine.

Law

Ukraine is one of the few countries in the world in which surrogacy is permitted by law. Surrogate motherhood agreements concluded on a commercial basis are allowed in Ukraine without any restrictions on the amount of remuneration for a surrogate mother.

The names of the genetic parents are immediately indicated on the birth certificate without any reference to the surrogate mother (in some countries of the world, the surrogate mother is considered the mother of the child until adoption by the genetic parents is completed). According to Ukrainian law, a surrogate mother does not have any rights and obligations in relation to her child born as a result of a surrogacy program.

Candidate

According to the legislation of Ukraine, a woman from the age of 18 to 51, who has no medical contraindications for bearing and giving birth to a healthy child, can become a surrogate mother. In addition, only a woman who already has her own healthy child can become a surrogate mother, while she should not have somatic and psychological diseases.

These requirements for women who have expressed a desire to be surrogate mothers are compulsory. Their non-compliance can cause certain legal difficulties: contesting motherhood, damages, unplanned termination of pregnancy, declining health of a surrogate mother.

Agreement

The surrogacy agreement is the main document aimed at protecting both parties. The contract is concluded only in writing and must be notarized. The subject of the surrogacy agreement is the provision of services for the bearing of a child by a surrogate mother, the birth of a child, and the transfer of him to genetic parents.

Parents have the right to know everything about the health status of the surrogate mother, be present at the doctor’s appointments with the surrogate mother, have free and unlimited access to the medical documents of the surrogate mother, know her whereabouts and have constant contact with her, visit the surrogate mother at her home with warning of the visit.

Cost

Cost of surrogacy is usually about 10 thousand dollars. You have to pay additional 5-7 thousand dollars for the birth of twins. In addition, during pregnancy, a woman receives material assistance specified in the contract from future parents.

Preparation of the entire package of documents will cost 1-2 thousand dollars.
