Travelling with Toddlers – The Best Pushchairs
Some parents seem to well and truly hate the very idea of a 3 year old being carted around in the pushchair. And we can see their point – the kid is old enough to walk for him- or herself, so why aren’t they? – but we can also see that there are many different possible reasons for that child being pushed about.
One reason, for example, is if you have a particularly long day of walking ahead of you: you really don’t want your little one dragging their tiny feet when they get tired; it’s only going to slow you down and make things more difficult.
It’s a fact – toddlers tire easily (though it might not feel this way come bedtime…). Walking can be pretty knackering when you’re not used to it! Keeping a handy pushchair can really prevent unnecessary stress, for you and for baby.
To make sure you choose the best travel system strollers for your toddler, you should make sure to take a few things into consideration. These include the height and weight of the pushchair, as well as how high the handles are. You’ll also want to make sure it’s fairly easy to carry around, and of course, whether it’s actually big enough for your bigger little one.
Compactness
You’ll want to make sure the pushchair is nice and compact. Because you’ve got an energetic toddler on your hands, you might find that he or she wants to get up and out of the pushchair at a moment’s notice, running off into the distance.
If the stroller is hard to fold away neatly, you’re going to struggle keeping up with the rugrat. Another plus for compactness is ease of use on public transport – larger pushchairs will be difficult to manage! Check out the Silver Cross Micro V2 for a good example.
Lightweight
This is probably the most important thing to make sure of. Because a toddler is significantly heavier than a newborn, try and cut down on the weight of the pushchair instead. Also, because they’re likely to get out of the chair often, you’ll probably be carrying it a lot.
We rather like the Maclaren Volo, because it weighs a paltry 8lbs yet remains incredibly durable. However, Cosatto also have a number of great choices, which you can find by clicking here to visit their website.
What Else?
As we said before, you should also look at the height of the handles on your chosen pushchair. If they’re too low, you may well be putting a lot of unnecessary strain on your back, which is never a good thing. No stooping, please!
Also, make sure it’s big enough! This may sound obvious, but your little one is bigger than a newborn, so he or she will need a larger seat than some models might offer, and you might want to make sure there’s some extra legroom there too. Make sure it’s not specifically for babies too – it may look big enough, but it might not take the extra weight!
