There is nothing like getting lost in the pages of a classic novel. Think about Rebecca or Jane Eyre or maybe even Lord of the Rings. But when you are on holiday you really need something a little lighter, more engrossing and relaxing. Here we take you on a tour of books that you should be reading on your vacation.

Act your age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert

This is the final instalment of the Eve Brown trilogy. It is a warm and witty and highly acclaimed love story about the hapless Eve. She is still struggling to find her way in the world and finds herself in a bed and breakfast. As you would imagine, there is going to be a man on the scene to complicate events. Black Buck by Mateo Askaripour

Imagine your big break coming while you are making a coffee for the people of New York. Darren manages to impress an owner of a soon to be successful company and is offered a job. What happens next is comedy gold, as we learn what it means to work in corporate America. It is a satire about working in America.

The Charmed Wife by Olga Grushin

This is a retelling of a well-known fairy tale. The idea behind the book is clever, as it asks you to consider what it means to experience a happy ending. It is Cinderella but in a way that doesn’t turn out quite as planned.

Outlawed by Anna North

So, this is a typical Western novel – in that it is set in the sprawling country you would expect. However, it is a story set in our times and is about the life of Ada and her journey to becoming an outlaw and the most amazon heroine.

If your kind of book is more the thriller than a thoughtful love story, then Girl A is for you. It is  a story that you would expect to see in the headlines, as the lives of children become highly public because of the harrowing events they experience.

Another book that takes an old story and brings it into the modern world, Hawkins reimagines Jane Eyre. The story is transplanted to modern day Alabama. There is Jane and Rochester, but Eddie Rochester is a widower in a mansion.
