Cleaning a Ceiling Fan

Ceiling fans often get neglected when cleaning the rest of the house, because the dust and dirt settles on top of the fan where no one can see it. But a good cleaning is needed at least twice a year and it is recommended it be cleaned once a month. Dirt can get caught in the motor of the ceiling fan and cause it to become loud, wobble or even ruin the motor. Follow these simple steps to clean your ceiling fan. 1. Turn off the ceiling fan and allow it to stop spinning before you begin.

2. Set up a ladder beneath the fan so that you have access to the blades.

3. If you have a small handheld vacuum, use it to pick up most of the loose dust. If you do not, use a dusting cloth to get the loose dust.

4. Spray cleaner onto a paper towel and wipe down each individual blade. Be careful not to get cleaner on any part of the fan’s motor.

5. Use a cleaner that is safe for metal or just water and wipe down any metal parts of the fan.

6. Make sure everything is dry with a clean dry paper towel.

7. On a weekly basis it is a good idea to use a ceiling fan duster to remove any dust.
