How do I get out of an open relationship?

Spread the love

Problem: I’d been dating a guy for a while when I suggested that we make it an open relationship for two reasons: one, I was unsure how I felt about him and two, I wanted to make sure that he was the one! It’s been a couple months since then and I’ve dated a whole host of guys (mostly losers!) but now I realize how much I really love him. I desperately want to go back to being monogamous but the problem is – he’s enjoying himself too much and is seeing god-knows-how-many -other people at the same time. Should I continue like this? Or, should I tell him that I made a mistake and that I want to go back to the way things were?

Let’s start by looking on the bright side: well … at least you now know that you really love him! In the meantime however, it seems as if he’s taken your open relationship suggestion a gal too far by multiple dating his way around town. If I were you, I’d play the ‘honesty card’ and say that seeing other people has made you realize just how special he is.

If he doesn’t immediately fall back into your arms then you should give him an ultimatum. Ask him how much more ‘open relationship time’ he wants? Remember: it was your idea in the first place so you should really give him a couple of weeks – but certainly no more! Any longer and just the thought of him running around ‘from one date to another’ will begin to drive you crazy.
